The Biomedical Graduate Student Organization (BGSO) represents over 600 PhD students enrolled in HMS-based graduate programs affiliated with the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences (GSAS). These programs include, among others, Biological and Biomedical Sciences (BBS), Virology, Immunology, and Neuroscience.

Our goal is to foster communication between the student body and the academic administrations. Additionally, we distribute DMS funding to student groups that organize social or academic activities open to all DMS students.

Seminars with Alumni: Scientific Entrepreneurship

Considering a career involving scientific entrepreneurship?  Want to learn more about what starting your own company entails?  Come join us in the first installment of “Seminars with Alumni” for an engaging and informal discussion with Harvard DMS alumni about their personal experiences in scientific entrepreneurship.  Drs. Dennis Vaccaro, Diala Ezzeddine, and James R. Gorman will be sharing their insights and answering questions ranging from “How much science do you think about daily?” to “How many hours do you work a week?” and “How would one begin the task of starting a science-based company?”.

Sandwiches will be provided for lunch through “Seminars with Alumni” (sponsored by the BGSO and DMS Alumni Committee).

There are only 30 spots available, so RSVP today!

What: A conversation and Q&A over lunch with alumni with direct scientific entrepreneurship experience.

When: May 28, 2008 from 12:30 to 1:30

BGSO Student-Alumni Lunch Program

Have you thought about working in scientific journalism but you don’t know anybody from the publishing world to talk with about it? Are you attracted by the biotech world, but you have never even visited a start-up? Do you wonder how your life will be 10 years from now when your DMS degree will just be a line on your CV? DMS has a number of alumni that would be more than happy to answer these and many other questions.

The DMS alumni network is a rich and powerful resource of experience, knowledge, networking and information about life after Harvard. In an effort to bring DMS students and DMS alumni closer, BGSO has launched a pilot initiative: the Student-Alumni Lunch Program.

BGSO Student-Faculty Lunch Initiative

Is there a faculty member that you would really like to meet, but you don’t know how or when? Is there a Harvard professor that you would really like to talk to, hear his/her opinion on a topic, or ask for a suggestion? Is there a PI whom you have always dreamt of spending time with? Is there a member of your DAC committee whom you would like to sit down with, but you can’t seem to schedule a meeting?

Treat him/her out to lunch! The meal is on us!

In an effort to improve the communication between faculty members and students on the Longwood Campus, BGSO has launched the BGSO Student-Faculty Lunch Initiative.
