Harvard Graduate Women in Science and Engineering (HGWISE)

Harvard Graduate Women in Science and Engineering (HGWISE) is a GSAS group dedicated to promoting the professional, academic, and personal lives of graduate women in science and engineering.

We hold talks with invited speakers, networking and social events, trainings, and coffee hours that address a variety of issues, including child care issues, the two-body problem, mentoring, and communication. We recently held a university-wide symposium, Beyond Bias and Barriers, that examined the increasing attrition of women at higher levels of the pipeline and what can be done at Harvard. Our speakers included former Duke University President and Harvard University Corporation Fellow Nan Keohane and Dean Barbara Grosz and our panel, moderated by Senior Vice-Provost Evelynn Hammonds, included Deans Theda Skocpol and Elise Lieberman. We hold events throughout the year, including biweekly coffee hours at Longwood on Friday mornings.
